College Soccer News annually issues a ranking of the top forty recruiting classes in August. The rankings are not issued until August to help ensure that they are based on the best possible information. In the meantime CSN will cover individual recruiting classes on an on-going basis as they are formally announced.
Individual classes will initially be assigned a one to five star ranking which is subject to change as additional recruits are added. The designation of a one to five star recruiting class will be based on the overall talent level within the class with an emphasis on criteria that reflects the overall level of play of class members against top level competition.
Factors considered include but are not limited to National Team experience, NSCAA Youth and High School All-America selections, Regional and State play, ESP participation, Player of the Year selections, competitive club play, All-State selections, the quality of play of transfers, and other awards, first hand observations, and recommendations that support success at the collegiate level of play. Ratings also reflect an analysis of the extent to which the recruiting class fits the specific needs of the program. CSN acknowledges up front that any system of ranking is somewhat subjective (and appropriately so) but every effort is made to utilize objective criteria to promote consistency of analysis. Of course, the only real and the ultimate measure of the effectiveness of any recruiting class is how well they perform on the field of play. |
