#1 Akron 2 - Stanford 0 - Akron took care of business with a solid 2-0 win over Stanford out of the Pac-10 Conference to advance to the Elite Eight.  A total of 2,806 fans were on hand at Lee Jackson Field as sophomore forward Teal Bunbury drove a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick to give Akron a 1-0 advantage in the 29th minute of play.  The goal was Bunbury’s seventeenth  of the year.  Junior midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong netted the second Akron goal in the 37th minute scoring out of a direct free kick from twenty-six yards out.  Akron improves to 22-0-0.

#8 Tulsa 1 - #9 Northwestern 0 - This one was played under wet and rainy conditions.  Tulsa’s outstanding sophomore forward Austin Neil back-footed in what proved to be the game-winning goal in the seventy-fourth minute of play off an assist from junior forward Ashley McInnes.  The goal was Neil’s fourteenth of the season while McInnes tallied his eighth helper.  Senior Andy Aguilar had four saves in goal for Tulsa in route to recording the shutout.  Northwestern defeated Tulsa 3-2 in overtime when the two teams met during regular season play.  The Golden Hurricane improve to 15-4-2 and advance to the Elite Eight to face number one seeded Akron. 

#5 North Carolina 1 - Indiana 0 - The Tar Heels did what they needed to do to survive and advance.  Elmar Bolowich stated, “This was not our most beautiful performance for sure.”  He added, “I thought we struggled today with finding our rhythm early.”  The Tar Heels got on the scoreboard in the twenty-seventh minute of play when junior midfielder Cameron Brown played a ball over the top of the Indiana defense which sophomore forward Alex Dixon controlled and made a nice move to create the space he needed to place the ball into the back of the net from six yards out.  Jordan Graye was also credited with an assist on the goal.  UNC advances to face Drake. 

Drake 6 - Boston College 4 - Never say never  if you are a Drake fan.  Boston College might be wondering who let the dogs out as the Bulldogs came from two goals down to secure the win and advance to the Elite Eight to face North Carolina.  Drake head coach Sean Holmes stated, “Each week seems to surpass the last, just when you think it can’t be any better for the program and for the kids, something incredible happens.”  The ten goals scored in this contest established a new NCAA Tourney record for total tallies in a single contest.  Michael Noonan, Kevin Shrout, Garrett Webb and Matt Kuhn each contributed a goal for Drake while senior Luke Gorczyca scored twice. 

#3 Wake Forest  4 - Duke 2 -  Wake Forest advances to the Elite Eight for the fourth consecutive season.  Zack  Schilawski got the Demon Deacons on the scoreboard in the 30th minute of play when he skillfully placed a shot into the upper right corner from just outside the box.  Schilawski made it 2-0 Wake Forest in the thirty-fourth minute of play when he sent a bullet into the left side of the net from fourteen yards out off an assist from Corben Bone.  Sophomore Sam Redmond scored out of a corner kick served in by Austin da Luz to give the Deacons a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.  Austin da Luz added the fourth score for Wake Forest in the 66th minute.  Cole Grossman and Ryan Finley scored for Duke in the 56th and 68th minutes of play.  

#6 UCLA 2 - UC Santa Barbara 1 -  The Bruins gain a ton of momentum with this win in Westwood and earn the right to travel to tangle with #3 seeded Wake Forest in what looks to be an outstanding Elite Eight matchup.  The Gauchos drew first blood just ten minutes into the match when David Walker one timed a cross received from Peter McGlynn into the net from close range.  UCLA’s Fernando Monge tied the score at 1-1 four minutes later when he controlled a rebound and put it back into the net at point blank range.  Ryan Hollingshead netted what proved to be the game-winning goal for UCLA in the thirty-sixth minute off a textbook give and go from UCLA senior midfielder Kyle Nakazawa.  UCLA improves to 12-3-4 while UCSB closes out the year 17-5-2. 

Maryland 2 - #10 Harvard 0 - The field was wet and the winds were strong but the Terps got the best of it on both sides of the ball to advance past a very solid Harvard side.  Maryland is money in the bank when they score first as reflected in the fact that the Terps are 12-0-0 so far this year when they net the first goal of the match.  Sophomore forward Casey Townsend scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Maryland in the tenth minute of play when he utilized his left foot to chip a ball into the back of the net from inside the box.  The goal was set up by a well played cross from freshman defender Taylor Kemp.  Maryland junior forward Billy Cortes scored Maryland’s second goal in the seventy-seventh minute of play when he drove a shot into the right side of the net from thirty yards out.  Terp keeper Zac MacMath was outstanding between the pipes recording five saves for the evening including a crucial save on a penalty kick to secure the shutout in goal for the Terps.   Maryland improves to 15-5-2 and advances to the Elite Eight to face the Virginia Cavaliers.

#2 Virginia 1 - Portland 0 - Redshirt freshman midfielder Ari Dimas from Chesapeake, Virginia produced the game-winning goal for the Cavaliers when he received a cross from sophomore defender Shawn Barry in the forty-sixth minute of play which he alertly one-touched into the net.  Forward Tony Tchani was also credited with an assist on the goal.  Defense continues to rule for the Cavaliers who have shut out ten consecutive opponents and are unbeaten in their last thirteen matches.  Virginia netminder Diego Restrepo had six saves in goal in route to recording his fourteen shutout of the year to date.  The Cavaliers have not been scored on in 1,017 minutes.  Virginia improves to 16-3-3 and advances to host familiar foe Maryland in an Elite Eight matchup.
